Some of you will have read my story Lonesome Pine already in the fabulous 'Northern Haunts' anthology, and for those of you who haven't, the story has today been reprinted in Flashes in the Dark.
I'd love it if you could leave a comment on the site and tell me how wonderful, amazing, talented, fantastic... You get the picture. Of course if you hate it, I have no objection to you saying that either - but I will hunt you down.

Northern Haunts
Sometimes the postman brings wonderful things. Look what dropped through my letter box today and it's full of stories by people I know in the blog/forum sense: Aaron A Polson, Nate Lambert, Natalie L Sin, Brandon Layng, Joel A Sutherland,Barry Napier, Bobbie Metevier, Patrick Rutigliano, R Scott McCoy, Ian Rogers, JC Tabler, Jeremy Kelly, MG Ellington, Jusin Pilon, Mary Rajotte, Michael J Hultquist, Mike Stone, Gina Ranalli, Brendan P Myers, Alex Moisi, and anyone I've missed out - oops! Isn't the internet a wonderful place.
Can't wait to read it.

The End... Plus a dollop of And that was August...
Okay time for my usual 'what I did last month' post - including 16 of my 17 days holiday from work which I devoted to writing short stories. Sad, I know.
1. Finished the first draft of 'The Poisoned Apple 2" (still untitled) - of which 14,796 words were completed this month.
2. Restarted my 'Matchsticks' novel, gave it a new title (which I'm keeping under wraps for the moment. As I'm writing it out longhand I can only say how many A4 pages I've filled - 63 so far.
3. Four Flash Stories
The Coffee Fairy - Wrote this one for the Weird Tales Spam contest - it didn't win. It needs to be longer, requires a better ending, and I will fix it eventually.
Curious Robot - Sent to The Morrigan ezine - hold notice
Nobody Smiling - Entered into the Apex Election Horror Contest (cool theme).
The Restoration of Purple Curtains & Other Things - Accepted by Northern Haunts. Just made it under the wire before submissions closed. Phew!
4. Six and a bit Short Stories
A Strange Artificial Light - my attempt at something for 'The Book of Tentacles' anthology. Rejected, slight rewrite, and now subbed to Hub.
Ugly Duckling - subbed to Cinema Spec - hold notice.
Hand Scratched Note - originally written for the Potter's Field 3 anthology. When it was rejected I chopped 500 words (which had been necessary for the antho's word count requirement), tightened it up and sent it off to Postscripts. You know the rest. (If you don't read a few posts down).
Uncle Eric's Leather Bound Tale - Written for the Dark Jesters anthology, rejected, and now with Arkham Tales who have requested a rewrite (chewing fingernails as we speak - I know I said I had none left but I lied).
Trench Foot - out with Clockwork Phoenix 2.
Lazarus Jones' Creepy Carnival of Corpses - out with Potter's Field 3.
Cyclone of Painted Shells (title subject to change) - WIP - for the Catastrophia anthology. Currently 2361 words.
5. Plus a bit of fun to tie off the month - one tiny competiton entry of 74 words (it had to be between 25-75 words).

Northern Haunts
What a fabulous way to start the day!!!! Lonesome Pine has been accepted by Tim Deal and will appear in the Northern Haunts anthology. I am ecstatic that I have made it into this anthology - did a mini tap dance (while sitting down - I'm a writer, I can't do anything too energetic) while reading the email. And it's doubly good news because my story will be appearing alongside tales form JC Tabler, Barry Napier, Natalie L Sin, Nathaniel Lambert, Phil Kuhlman, oh and some guy called Nate Kenyon (you may have heard of him he wrote a wee book called 'Bloodstone' - woot!). Apologies to all those I've missed out...

And that was May...
Okay, so what did I do in May? The answer - not much.
1. Finally, finally, finally comprised a query letter for 'The Poisoned Apple' and sent it off to one agent. More to follow this month.
2. One Short Story completed (and the bulk of the work was done in April - gulp!)
Treading the Regolith - Finished off, edited and sent to the Return to Luna competition.
3. Four Flash Stories completed this month
The Dreadful Guise of Red Berries - Set in the cranberry bog's of New Hampshire - sent to the Northern Haunts anthology.
The Sand Sculptures - Another to the Northern Haunts anthology.
Lonesome Pine - Yep, you guessed it - it's with the Northern Haunts anthology. My last I promise.
Distress Signal - Pirates and retribution - sent to Postcards from Hell.
4. And I'm currently working on my story for 'The Black Garden' anthology. Hoping to complete it very, very soon. I'm also struggling with a story for the 'Potters Field' anthology. I seem to have started an awful lot of stories that I haven't been able to finish/weren't satisfied with this month. My recycle bin is bursting.
5. To cover for my lack of wordage in May, I'll mention my 3 acceptances (we'll ignore the rejections!) from The Age of Blood and Snow, Every Day Fiction, and Bloody October. Oh, and my story Burying Sam will be up on Every Day Fiction this Thursday (5th June). YAY!
June so has to be better - if for no other reason than it's my birthday this month. (Oh dear, I've just remembered how old I'll be - not so good after all). :)
