Another Noooo

Frog & The Mail Order Bride didn't make it into the Voices anthology.

I quote: "Our decision was based on the fact that the story felt more suited to a macabre comedy rather than a horror anthology. The story had merit, but simply didn’t suit our theme." Poor Frog.

I'm worrying my submission to 'Ghosts in the Machine' will get a similar rejection.

I'll admit to having not read much of your writing, but you have some the coolest titles EVER.

Concerning Ghost in the Machine...I think that's going to be one of those anthologies where the weirder the story, the better. I wouldn't count yourself out just yet. (Something I keep telling myself about my own story for the anthology). Here's to hoping we share the TOC!

"I'll admit to having not read much of your writing." That's because you'd be hard pressed to find it anywhere (and I'm glad about that). Most of my stories were published in the 1990s (I took a 7 year hiatus from submitting stories) and most were BAD... I'd bury them if I could.

Cate - I can admit to reading none of your writing that isn't on this particular site, so take THAT Mr. Napier!

On the other hand, you have a good track record here of short story publishing and sales. That counts a lot. Unlike me, the seldom published, mostly doing readings guy in Kentucky, you're a Brit (you win points just for living in a nation that has never elected a Bush). You're obviously a talented writer, otherwise there wouldn't be any credits to your name. And I'm certain that I'll never share a ToC with you, because your work is light years ahead of mine. You, madam, are a pro, and I can't wait to see your novels in print so I can pester you to accept a package from me, sign it, and send it back.

Now that we're over that one, I loved that title. I mean, I REALLY loved that title. I think I'm the pro of the two-word title right now...

Cheers JC... LOL! I'm sure we'll never appear in the same TOC as I am certain I will never have another story accepted ever again... :)

Good luck to both of you with VOICES - I can't wait to read it.

Bummer! I'm sure that story will find a home, though. For one thing, the title is too cool for words!

Cheers, KC.

It's a good rejection though--it sounds like they would have snagged you up if it fit the theme a bit tighter.

And I agree--COOLEST titles ever!

Cheers Angela. I'm a fan of reading between the lines and then you can convince yourself of anything. :) Whatever gets you through the rejection.

We're in the same boat, only mine was too ambivilent. Maybe your frog would like to hang out with my killer bugs?

Hi Natalie

I'm sure killer bugs is just the kind of mess Frog would get himself caught up with.

I’m also a fan of your titles. Every one I’ve read here on your blog has made me coo. They’re interesting, and cool. :)

WOW! Praise indeed. Though I'm sure a good old rejection with a 'your title stinks' comment will bring me back down to Earth within the hour.

"Your title stinks," they insist.

"I can rename it! I'm not attached to the title! What do you want, 'The Fluffy Kitten Walks At Midnight'? I'll do it. No problem."

"No no no...it's the gallows for you."

We liked it though Cate, it was more the theme that didn't fit than anything else... as you know.

Hey J.C.

"Your title stinks," they insist.

Did we really say that?

Wow talk about making my weekend - thanks for popping over and making a comment Mark - :)

I gotta stop dropping my "what if" scenarios in public places...this is just like the time I went on about a possible midget waiter in a fancy restaurant...

Heh!

I would comment more but I'm terrible at keeping up to date with Blogger, Live Journal's friend list is so much easier...

I forgot to say I know what you mean about Ghosts in the Machine too as I have the same feeling (eek, I've got to finish that yet!)

Cate Gardner said...

Good luck with 'Ghosts', Mark.

Say! Idea...seeing as how all of us have subbed to Ghosts in the Machine, why not have a helpful trading circle...reading each other subs. Good for ego-stroking if nothing else! lol

Cate Gardner said...

I'm always open to reading other people's stories and having mine read (I think - gulp!). I don't know about ego-stroking though, I'm more likely not to hear from anyone ever again. LOL :) I am just a bundle of neuroses.

Ah, Cate, bummer! I like for all the little stories to find homes. One of mine got published, then a month later I received a rejection on it from some place I'd submitted to 18 months ago. Form, no less!
