The Story Collector

I'm 13,000 words into the Theatre rewrite and taking a break for the weekend. I've had an idea for a short story for a couple of months now, it kept nudging at me, but I didn't know where to go with it. Now I do, and I'm hoping three ugly sisters will accompany it. I feel as if I haven't written a short in forever - rolls desk over to diary and discovers I haven't written a new short since early March. Gulp!

I'm going to try and outline these stories rather than throwing madness at the page and seeing where it leads me. Maybe the result will be better, maybe it'll be worse. In the meantime, I'm enjoying the gathering of ideas.

Onward, my little Shoe Crow Collector, onward...

Let us know how the outlining works. I've never been able to do that--always opting for the madness flinging--but sometimes I think it'd be better if I tried again.

Most times that I've tried to outline a short, I've been unable to finish it - they become boring somehow. This time, I'm determined..erm, for now.

Short stories are my "natural state". I feel sad when I'm not writing them. I don't know why...

Best of luck with the outlining.

Always good to get to story written, before it starts to collect friends!

It's so nice when an idea decides to let you know what the hell you're meant to be doing with it, isn't it?

Enjoy!

I'm a short story kind of girl although I haven't written one in a while either. Here's hoping the outlining goes smoothly.

I used to write exclusively short fiction, and now I can't even remember how. Every story idea I have seems to take 250 pages to tell!

Yeah, I've never mastered the outlining thing. I have a book of ideas, but not one of them has ended up a short story. Almost as if by writing them down you somehow kill the magic.

This is what worries me about a novel...

The gathering of ideas - I love it.

Short stories are my first loves.

Yes, tell us how the outlining goes! I have a mental block when it comes to outlines. I start screaming, "Don't tell me what to do and where to take this story!" even when *I* am the one who created it.
