Twitter

So I began my December posts yesterday admonishing myself for being a serial procrastinator, and what is the first thing I declare as a love interest of 2009... Twitter. I do irony.

Seriously though. Twitter can be a time suck and yes it has gobbled up quite a few of my hours, but if you use it sensibly (ie like the 2010 me is going to use it) then it can be a valuable resource. I've made new friends via twitter, I've seen links to markets looking for stories, and found it to be a great marketing tool during the heady month of Olive Lemon. And now that you can create lists of your most favourite tweeple (a much nicer word than twits, despite the latter being appropriate for me and most others), so you don't have to run down your list of everyone you're following when you first log on for the day. Not that you should ever actually log on for an entire day. No, even I wouldn't do that.

Go on, sign up now and twitter with me during 2010. We can declare all our most wonderful sales, awards, and what colour pj's we're wearing.

I am a convert. I think it wasn't more than 3 or 4 months ago that I was head scratching about Twitter and saying how it was a short sighted tool that would be going away soon.

But now I'm hooked. I get so much good info (especially on writing/reading topics) that it makes the time very well spent.

That said...holy crap is it a time thief. I only follow like 90 people and I can spend huge amounts of time following their interesting links.

You are one of my favorite tweeple. I don't have a favorite list yet. Hmmm. Time sink, yes. Good investment of time, yes most definitely. I love your sense of irony.

Jeremy, I recently cropped about 40 people off my following list, but that still leaves 300. That's why the list of my favourite people has proved a godsend.

MG, where else can you make inane comments to famous people.

I have yet to master Twitter. I still feel like it is so hit and miss. (Am I missing something?)

Aaron, you are. You most definitely are. Come and play with us.

I'm still holding out on Twitter.

I haven't joined it yet, Cate. People want me to tweet and do Facebook. I get sucked into new things. I am still thinking on that one. :-D

I miss all the writing I was doing while freelancing, but I think I miss Twitter even more. So sad...

Natalie, beware it could get worse.

Danielle, as much as I'd enjoy your tweets, it's probably wise.

Tyhitia, stay away from Facebook. I see no benefit in the place at all.

Barry, twitter is the one thing I make sure I stay up to date with. Very, very sad, I know.

Ah, welcome to the terrordome--I mean, Twitter. I signed up a couple of months ago and have been muddling through it ever since. Still looking for the hook that's going to be keep me on it.
