Invasion of the Sleep-Deprived Zombies

Thanks to a darn head cold and my lungs forgetting how to breathe, I didn't sleep at all last night. Turns out a few other people didn't either and one of them came up with the below title (unintentionally of course), and then that person suggested a story ending with a zombie lullaby. Determined to procrastinate, I was most definitely up for the challenge:

Invasion of the Sleep-Deprived Zombies

Kate had forgotten how to spell.

A lack of zzzzz’s during the night had left her with too many consonants and not enough vowels. The judge tapped his scythe against the auditorium floor and the sound echoed through the cavernous hall.

“Miss Shaw, you have twenty seconds left.”

“What was the word again?”

The audience sighed and her opponent checked his watch. “Zombie,” the crowd shouted.

“Do I look that bad?” she replied.

“The word, Miss Shaw, is zombie. Ten seconds.”

“Z… Z...” She tumbled face forward and landed in the judge’s lap. A trail of zzzzzz’s, along with some drool, dribbled from her mouth.

“Time’s up.” The Judge knocked her from his lap. His trademark warble accompanied the whistle of his scythe as it cut through the air. “Rock-a-bye Zombie, you're a spelling bee flop. When bones break, your head will drop off.”

THE END

Sorry for chopping your head off Kate... Enjoy your spelling bee tonight (and I hope you win - the above is purely evil fiction; feel free to kill me in any zombie related posts). :O)

**Hands on Hips** Are you saying my story sent you to sleep? :)

Snarf. I saw this on Twitter and made a bet with myself that you wouldn't be able to resist. Now I owe me money. ;)

Predictable is my middle name on Thursdays. :)

How...awful?

Acutally, the zombie lullaby is a largely untapped genre...

I liked it. Sorry Kate.

Lol! I feel so...loved. Or something.

My spelling bee starts in an hour. If my team gets kicked out in the first round, I'll just point the judges to this blog. :)

Feel better soon, Cate - but keep writing zombie lullabies.. ;)

I posted a double entry on my blog today then I saw your headline and had to pop over here.

You have to pop on by to listen to some ”Zombies”

Oh, plus, more importantly: feel better.

I hope you feel better soon.

This could very well turn into the next meme.

Choose a person who comments regularly on your blog and write a flash piece about them which has something to do with a recent post on their own blog. (This part Cate has already done)

Tag the person you write about, who then has to continue the process with another person. (KC)

At the end of each flash piece, you must add to the list of names of everyone who has so far been immortalized in flash. Each name should have a link back to that person's blog.

Double ups are not allowed so the meme has a bigger chance of spreading.

All we need is a word limit and we're away...

Cute lullaby.

Seems like every site I go to has something about zombies. Is it zombie appreciation month and no one told me?
