Barrel Organ Phil & His Marvellous Monkey

It's strange what we remember and what we don't.

I recall going to a hospital with my nan when I was small and that the lobby area was a large circular room. I can still hear the echoing sounds of our footsteps. My mum says this never happened and there is no such hospital in Liverpool.

I also recall a man with a monkey playing an organ in the city centre when I was little. To which I was told to stop being silly and such things hadn't existed since the early 1900s... Muahaha.

While trawling the internet today, I somehow found myself at You Tube searching for old videos of Liverpool and came across this...

...check out the video at about 4:05.

Now all I need to do is find that darn hospital. My quest to prove I am always right continues...

Wouldn't that have been absolutely crazy if you found a video that you were in? It's fantastic being right! :-)

Today's ridiculous word verification: mbedg candedin

I desperately hoped I'd see little me, but alas...

Wanted to jump on and say hello.

I bet it DID happen and everyone else just forgot. Writers have better memories, I think. Always observing. Maybe it starts young.

When I foolishly thrust both arms through a glass door at the age of 5 and ended up in hospital with more blood spurting from my limbs than John Hurt managed from his stomach in ALIEN, I recall being laid out on an ironing board to have my stitches.

I can only presume this image has stayed with me c/o some hideous 60s anaesthetic cocktail — but it WAS an ironing board.

I wish I'd stopped watching after the monkey - Morris dancers frighten me for some reason.

Hi, Bobbie :D

That's a fabulous story, Whirlochre - except for your being injured, of course.

Thankfully I have no memory of the morris dancers, Ray ;)

I was hoping you were in the video too. You should have been!

I have a clear memory of playing around a flagpole on a sort of fence thing with another girl when I was very, very small, singing "A tisket, a tasket." I can picture the whole area perfectly. My mother always swore we had never been to anyplace with flagpole like that. Maybe she just didn't notice it. Even though her daughter was swinging on it like a monkey (but not an organ grinder).

Adults forget everything (and I'm living proof of that)

Okay, for one, that film is AWESOME in general. But also, go, go Barrel Organ Phil. That guy's my hero.

Let's pretend you were one of the people milling about, shall we?
