Welcome to IrregularVille

In a distant long forgotten world, once known as RegularVille, the second draft of Grim Glass Vein would be a finished thing covered in the brutal red (or perhaps green) marks of the final edit. But in IrregularVille, the writer makes trackmarks on her carpet as she rolls from laptop to PC and puts off the inveitable words The End.

I think she is a little scared.

In the between places, she thinks about her characters and especially about the little people who skirt around the edges. Delicate, skeletal creatures, mere wisps manipulated by the antagonist and the protagonist. I need to cut their strings and breathe life into their chests.

I always gallop as fast as possible to "the end" and then have to spend twice as long as I should on the edits. You're not scared, you're thorough.

Good luck getting there, though!

My shaking fingers disagree. :D I normally race to the end, but I appear to be playing the tortoise this time.

I do both.

I crawl along, 1,000 words at a time for the first 3/4 of the story. Then, with the finish line in sight, I sprint like a rabid zombie.

And I *always* end up having to add to the ending.

Anthony, I'm normally slow at the beginning and fast at the end. Though I do tend to rush things.

Natalie, :D

I totally feel ya Cate. But ask yourself what bad things will happen when your character's strings are cut and they are breathing on their own?

I'm just hoping they'll stop squealing and running away like dorks. :D

Sounds like you are getting it down. I am sure it will be great and your characters are ready for their freedom, as long as they have you as their safety net.

Cate,

Don't feel badly. I'm playing the tortoise with my current WIP as well. :-D

I want to say it's done, but it's back to the beginning. :D

I can never wait to get to the end and then once I'm there I get a little sad that it's over.

I never know what to do with myself when I get to the true end.
