If I ever moan that my luck stinks point me to this post. Look what came in the mail today. The most gorgeous bookmark (and stickers - I'm debating whether to stick them to something fabulous or save them for when KC is famous and buy myself a house with the proceeds - even if it's a lego house) for Jack of all Trades by K.C. Shaw, a most wonderful fantasy tale set in Merry Olde England.
God, I love this book. I've read many fantastic books this year including Unwind by Neil Shusterman, Eyes Like Stars by Lisa Mantchev, Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson, and The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan to name a few. These are the books I couldn't put down, the ones that made me wish my favourite tv show would end or would pull me away from the internet, the ones I had to finish and when I did, I regretted rushing through them as I didn't want to leave the worlds they'd created, Kate's book did that.
I love her characters, but most of all I love Pepper, an Emperor Dragon with a personality that just leaps from the page. It's a lightish tale, not too dark at all (I normally like my tales almost pitch black) despite harbouring a man made of bees and a curse that could destroy our hero, that would be Mr. Jack Bywater, a man of many talents. There's mystery, evil doings, unicorns, fairies, and a budding romance. You're a fool if you don't treat yourself to this book, and I know none of you are fools.

i think i'm the last person on the planet to read KC's book. I have ordered it and it's in the mail...thanks for making the wait harder Cate! :^)
Any time, Samantha. :D
I am using the bookmark I won in my book. I just wish I had more time to sit down and read, uninterrupted.
I don't want to use mine. I'm going to display it in a case beside my signed copy of Neil Gaiman's Graveyard Book. I've been spoiled for reading time lately, but it will end in October.
Ooh, that sounds right up my alley! Excellent!
What a wonderful nod to the tale. I like my stories pretty black, too, but Pepper gets under your skin, and not in that creepy "under your skin" sort of way.
Mercedes, you won't regret reading it.
Aaron, I never expected I would love this book or Pepper so much. Kate is a star.
Pepper the dragon? That's darling ; )
*blushes* Thanks! Gosh! I'm so glad you liked it!
I want an emperor dragon with all my heart, you know. :)
Natalie, she is indeed.
Kate, we all do now. :D
Gorgeous bookmarks. Pepper rocks.
