WIP Wednesday - Some Chipmunks

So this week, I fell down a plot hole so large that most of the characters fell in after me, we scrambled out and reformed ourselves and tried to pretend nothing so horrendous had happened, I figured out the origins of my Horrifiques (and quite surprised, I was too), and we crawled in at just over 10,000 words for the week. Current word count is 26,721 words, which according to my trusy calculator is 59.38%.

A little concerned my YA is getting a bit too creepy. Here's two lines from the current chapter.

Grin thanked him by crawling into his skin, and using the boy's shell as his own.

and...

"If you get the opportunity to do come back and tell us all about Hell. Or send a postcard. If there's no stationery available, you can always flay some skin and blood suffices for ink."

Besides, it's a first draft, I'm sure we can notch up the creepiness factor to a ten... Sorry, turned the dial the wrong way.

Oh, and I don't know if LJ is lying to me but just in case, Happy Birthday, Katey.

My son was enamored with that video. I will probably have to watch it several times today. :)

Killer word count. I think the creepiness factor is in just the right place.

As long as you and your characters do a little dance to distract our attention, nobody will notice the plot hole that you escaped from.

If you dance reaaaaally well, that is. *summons music* Now dance, my pretties! Dance!

I'm with Aaron. Kids these days can take what you dish out and then some.

Interesting you should ask that. I have the U.S. album, but check this out:

Did you see who voices them? ; )

I say turn it up to 11! Love those phrases, and I'm sure any YA reader will too.

And, er, yes, it is totally my birthday. Thank you, you're too sweet! My mom says this is the last one I'm supposed to admit to (29) :D

Reminds me of a friend I have that made a dinner date with me in Hell. I hear they have quite good barbecue.

Nah...I think all YA should read like that! It teaches them to use their noggins and be creative...no paper? use some skin!

I used to love the Chipmunks when I was little. Ah, youth!

Your excerpts are delightfully creepy! Keep it up. :)

Jamie, they are too cute.

Aaron, I had to kill typewriter keys to get there.

Mercedes, I think one of them broke their foot.

Jeremy, they probably think those lines are tame.

Natalie, OMG! Who'd have thought it? Is there anything those Korean boys can't do?

Katey, I admit to mine all the time, and at the same time tell people my mother has problems with numbers and is about ten years out.

Christina, we went far beyond 'little', this was the plot hole to beat all plot holes.

Carrie, order me a burger.

Good point, Barry.

:) KC. And on a side note, I am adoring the tales of Jack and Pepper.

I once more bow to the queen of words - go girl!

Give me a week, and I'll be back down to moaning I can't write. :)

Ooooh, I likes.

Yes, make it creepier and creepier until the creepiest creepies are creeped out by the creepiness.

Mmmmm, creepy.

The first drafts can be a drag, but it sounds like it has promise. Keep hammering at it. :)
