An Agents Day vs My Day

I think I'm busy with my day job, working on my novel, writing short stories, but an agent's life - heck, I think I would spontaneously combust! Rachelle Gardner (no relation) has provided a look into her daily routine over at Christian Fiction Online Magazine. WOW! And Michael Bourret also outlined his day (like forever ago) over at the Dystel & Goderich blog.

Anyhow, here is a look at a typical weekday for me. Oh, and yeah, I have no life!!!

05:20 Throw something at the alarm clock.

06:00 Take about 2 seconds to wash after falling asleep in the bath.

06:10 Fix hair and face in the dark (it's best that way - I recommend very heavy curtains in summer just in case a hint of light peeks through and you see even a slither of skin or hair).

06:20 Slap some toast under the grill - stuff some in mouth and then panic I'm going to be late and throw the rest in the bin.

06:30 Leave house.

06:35 Run for bus, fall over, miss second and third bus while picking myself up and then wait impatiently for the next trio.

06:45 The bus journey. Attempt to read a book, or a short story I've printed off the web, while being poked in the eye by elbows and whacked in the head by rucksacks.

06:55 Get off bus and groan because it is such a long way to the office. It used to be a quicker journey (the office hasn't moved but the city council keeps putting obstacles in my way ie diverting the bus, removing the first bridge I used to walk over so that I had to walk out of my way to use another bridge, then removing that bridge and diverting me even further - I will take the hint one day).

07:10 - 07:15 Arrive in the office. Check email (ahem! mine not my work one).

07:30 - 14:00 Work diligently at my job and never, not once, think about working on a short story or my novel or checking my email again. Do fun things like answer phones, open post, type, type, type some more, drink coffee, feel guilty about drinking coffee, pour it away and get water instead, eat salad, eat yoghurt, feel less guilty, make another coffee. Trip over my own feet as I run for the door.

14:00 - 14:45 Another bus ride, pick up some groceries, get home - YAY!

14:45 - 15:15 A wee chat, a cup of tea, and then...

15:15 - 17:00 Read some blogs, visit a few forums, then settle down to write.

17:00-17:10 Eat food.

17:10 - 19:45 - Write, try not to visit any more blogs or forums (fail), write some more.

19:45-22:30 Watch TV, Read, eat food that is bad for me, feel guilty, eat more food that is bad for me because now I'm sad, resolve never to eat that food again.

22:30 - Snoresville.

That is one full day! I'm scared to keep a record of mine, but perhaps I should . . .

That sounds like an action-packed day. Who wouldn't be envious? I'd give it a shot, but I'm too busy trying to grow a mustache this month!

Wow. Rachelle and I keep the same hours. Up at 5am (I need an alarm) to sleep at 11pm.

Everything else between is completely different. Mine is filled more with naps and daydreaming.
